Dressing up for the last week of 2015

I hope everyone continues to enjoy the holidays, and the last week of 2015.   I am taking full advantage of the opportunities to dress up

One of my favorite bags, dog lover that I am

Maybe I'll give the red a rest in January...then, again, it is my "go to" color!

Crazy Christmas sweater

Is this crazy, or what?  I saw it at Target, and did a double take!  The two person Christmas sweater.   Is this twinning on steroids?

Also at Target, for the ugly Christmas sweater party, this year, these are almost too cute!

Of course, I have digressed from the reason for the trip to the packed Target in the first place, for necessities, and Christmas shopping for other people.  I always try to schedule extra time in this store, because avoiding diversion is next to impossible!

I tried a few things on, (further distraction)

This could have been cute as a tunic, love the brocade, but it was very bulky on

This was very tempting, but I already have one furry vest, that I have trouble styling

I really wanted this oversize herringbone skirt to fit, but the waist/ hip proportion was off for me.  To bad, keep looking, and return to Christmas shopping!

I hope all of your Christmas shopping is done, your gifts are wrapped (I'm behind on this, but it's no problem, because I love the wrapping part!), and everyone has a very Happy Holiday!

Tis the season for glitz

The holidays are the perfect time to add a little festive glam to a daytime look:

A little glitz for day

Daytime Christmas party

Same dress for evening

Hope everyone is enjoying the Christmas season!
I feel like I am in a whirlwind, but I don't want to miss any of the festivities, since Christmas only comes around once a year!

The Christmas season is in full swing!

I was at Michael's arts and crafts store, while an employee was decorating this giant wreath. I inquired about it for the chimney, but someone had already placed a hold on it.

This set-up was in the cellar at an Annapolis bookshop,

and this was in the back seat of a car I passed it a parking lot:

This place is into skeletons!

A few decorations are going up around our house.

The little tree is up

and decorated!

I made these tree ornaments years ago, and today, a can't believe I had the patience for it!

More festive decorations

I hope everyone is having a happy holiday season, so far!

I see red

Red is my "go to" for adding color to my closet staples.  Actually, in the case of this dress, it is a staple!
For his basic red flare skirted dress, here are two styling  possibilities.

For evening

and for day
I realize this dress, while versatile,  is a whole lot of red!  It looks better with a layer on top, so I think I will be styling it this way in the future.

Here is another of my basics-a red pencil skirt, styled two ways.

With black and white

and with off white and navy

It's a great accessory color, too, that I rely on a lot, so that's best left for another post.

Of course 'till the season for red, and to get yourself fancy, so as I ready my outfits for the holiday festivities, there will be even more red than usual.! I hope everyone in the who celebrates the Christmas holidays is having a great season!

70's style

The 70's are so influential in fashion this season.  And patchwork seems to be all over the place, sort of a spin off, it seems, of the boho look, which has been popular for several years.  I thought I would stick my toe in this season, with a few pieces with a slightly 70's/boho vibe.

Just a little, with a patchwork print

A little more

A lot!

My little fringed bag didn't make it into any of these photos, so I think there will be  more experimenting with "a little" bit of the 70's.  Also, I love a wrap dress, and I'm looking at new ways to style the ones I have, with a nod to the 70s.

Birthday Girl

Today is my birthday.  Just for fun, I looked up famous people born on December 1st.  It seems some very well known people in entertainment share my birthday. Woody Allen, Bette Midler, Richard Pryor, and Sarah Silverman.  Huh.  I am in the company of some outstanding comedians, if only by  way of my birthday!

Happy Day!

Weekly thrift

My thrifting adventures continue...

Here are a few things I wished had fit.

These T-strapes are adorable, but regrettably, half a size too small :(
I tried them on, anyway, because sizing is erratic, and occasionally, an 8 will fit.

I really like the navy bow blouse, but it was too big.  I knew better than to bring the wine v-neck pullover into the dressing room, I always look like I'm swimming in this style.  On rare occasionally, a belt will work.  I will bring one along, next time.

This quilted vest looked promising for cold weather layering, but I couldn't move my arms with a sweater underneath, so I passed.  The Fair Isle style sweater is similar to one I tried on during a previous shop, which I wish I had brought home. So I tried this one.  But the oatmeal color was just blah on me.

I did purchase a few things, though, and this is one of them.  It's the first mix into my wardrobe of this striped top by Liz Claiborne.

Zara opens

I'm excited that a Zara store recently opened in my area mall, so I went to check it out.  I am a fan of Zara designs, but their presence is not that well established in the US, yet, in brick and mortar stores.   since  I'm not a big online shopper, unless I am well acquainted with the quality and sizing idiosyncrasies of the store, it was great to see Zara up close and in person.  The store did not disappoint.  I love the animal prints on these tops

and this cute, whimsical acrobatic dancer print.

Another favorite, was this ornate, geometric print.

I also liked the fit and weave of these cropped trousers.

I think I might be received one or two to this items for my birthday, yeah!
The only thing I didn't like about this shiny new store, with three connected store-fronts, (men, women and kids sections), was the dressing rooms.  They were very tiny, and disorienting, with mirrors all around bouncing your reflection all over the place, like a fun house!

Late for Thanksgiving

I am late in preparing for Thanksgiving.  Yikes!  The weeks just slipped by.  I am usually more on top of it. Aside from not having done the grocery shopping, yet, I have not thought about the decor, either.  I must get moving!  Since we have moved twice in as many years, the holiday decor tends to be the first to be culled as unnecessary.   This is all I have to work with:

My shopping trips have not turned up much inspiration, since the retailers are already into Christmas, full swing!

So it looks like DIY it is.

Since I like any opportunity to play with food, this is adorable:

And this looks like a simple and pretty solution for our round dining table that can be made from things mostly already around the house:

I found both of these ideas on Pinterest.
