Polka Dot Party

If in doubt, go with polka dots!
A polka dot print has a festive flare about it that makes people want to smile
From the most conservative workwear to the fanciest evening dress
polka dots seem to be cheerful!

First, a versatile navy blue dress that has a mini white polka dot print and sheer sleeves
I dressed it up here for Christmas with some touches of red and green

I have had this Frankie Welch Christmas tree print scarf for years
The artist is local to Alexandria, Virginia.
I bring it out and style it differently every holiday season

Green is definitely a favorite Christmas color but it
seems to take a back seat to bold and fiery red
So today, I decided to give my green accessories some love

Wearing black D'Orsey pumps to finish the look

Next, a jacket with a larger scale black and white dot print
The dotted jacket and the bright blue blouse energize my conservative outfit
Another plus is that the jacket is a cinch to mix and match with other colors

Carrying a black and white striped handle bag for a little pattern mixing
and wearing simple gold tone jewelry to accessorize

Black tie heels to finish

Last dottie outfit!
This look is made up of a white blouse with a small confetti like dot print
The full lace overlay skirt I paired with it has served me so well
around the holidays and beyond.  It is from Express and is one of those rare items
that I get way more wear from than I could have ever guessed
when I purchased it.  It's been re-mixed since the late 2000's!

A little purple for color and a little gold tone for sparkle!

Brushed gold pumps
I have accumulated quit a few pairs of Sam Edelman shoes
as it is one brand that consistently fits my well
It's so nice to have a go-to shoe brand

I think Santa might appreciate a little healthy break from all the Christmas sweets

Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays!

Transitioning to fall

Saturday marked the autumnal equinox in the northern hemisphere
so I thought it would be fitting to do a transitional season post
This week I'm rewearing three dresses I have worn on the blog this summer
It is their last wear, layered up for fall, before packing them up until next spring!

The first outfit is a halter neck dress in a dark floral print adapted for the changing weather
by wearing a short sleeve black ribbed cardigan over it
I also choose a dark red bag and shoes to pull this look into the fall season

Vintage 1950's handle bag with silver tone and black leather "love" cuff
and silver tone and black enamel flower earrings

Red suede ankle strap heels with bows to finish

Next is a sheer, sleeveless white and black print dress
that I wore with a light slip dress underneath this summer
Today I have layered a fine gauge short sleeve collared sweater underneath
as well, to make it wearable for fall

Bright pink bow clutch and gold tone bow bracelet to accessorize

Black faux suede block heel sandals to ground the outfit

This last dress is also a sleeveless one  with a high-low hem in a purple, gray and black
abstract print. Worn this time with a black tie waist silk cardigan over it

Silver metallic clutch bag and silver tone collar necklace
with a  pink beaded bracelet is from the 40's for accessories

Black suede tie heels to complete the look

Happy autumn, everyone!

Florals in bloom

I'm a big fan of floral prints, so of course I have plenty of them in my closet, so,
this post is dedicated to outfits dominated by flowers!
I noticed all three of these have something else in common,
they are all on a white background
Although I wear florals in all seasons these are light and airy-perfect for summer!

First, a super comfy knit dress with big sprays of bright multi-colored flowers
This dress has a lot of color and detail, so I kept the accessories simple

Worn with my 60's vintage yellow handle bag, a green belt that doesn't go with much in
my closet, so I was happy to get it out and wear it with this dress
For jewelry, yellow flower shaped earrings and a gold tone bow bracelet

Nude pumps to finish the look

The next floral is a sleeveless dress with a two layer print skirt, one sheer and one opaque
It was a little chilly on this day, so I wore a lilac cardigan layered over it

Blush scalloped bag with amethyst jewelry
An expandable cuff bracelet and diamond shaped drop earrings

To finish, low heeled blush tie pumps that I have loved for three seasons now
I am always happy to see them again, after they have been stored for the winter.  My favorites!

Lastly, a sheer white background floral blouse with a navy blue camisole underneath
This top has double flowers, as the small white ones are 3-D attachments to the fabric
Worn with a flared navy blue skirt

For accessories, I choose a navy blue and white striped box clutch and
pink belt, with gold tone knot bracelet and flower shaped earrings

Brink pink block heel sandals to finish

Fit and flare forever

I wear fit and flare styles quite often and I'd say it's a go-to silhouette for me
This post features three recent outfits with this classic shape

The first outfit is a fit and flare dress that is season-less and so versatile
I'm wearing it with an ivory blouse with sleeves of ruffles and lace-
it's all about fabulous sleeve details in fashion, now
I've also worn this dress with a jacket or cardigan layered over it
and with a more casual short sleeve top under it
All of these possibilities make this dress a wardrobe workhorse-it's a keeper!

Another workhorse in my closet is this bronze clutch
I would have never thought when I bought it that it would be so useful
and go with everything!
For jewelry I'm wearing whimsical faux pearl owl earrings

Red suede bow heels to finish

The next outfit is two pieces, a fit and flare style black and white
geometric print skirt with a net overlay,
worn with a 50's vintage short sleeve sweater with a striped collar
I haven't worn this sweater for ages, but recently I have been inspired
to get more of my vintage pieces out of the closet and wear them

Accessories are a red patent leather wristlet
and silver tone knot bracelet

 Basic red pumps to finish

The last outfit stars a wildly printed fit and flare dress.  I usually layer a sweater
over this dress, as it's a little overwhelming alone, but I thought I'd try it once

Accessorized with a white round handle bag
with a navy blue and white gingham scarf tied on it

Chunky denim studded sandals to finish
