Fired Brick

Hello, and thanks for stopping by my blog!

One of the colors I have been seeing a lot of this fall and winter season
is a dark rusty red shade that Pantone calls Fired Brick

For this post, I thought I would put together a couple of outfits
using this color in a print and a solid,
as well as taking the time machine back to see how I have styled
this color in the past few years

First, a dress with a black and ivory floral print on a Fired Brick color background
This dress is an easy to wear faux wrap style in a very soft and fluid fabric
The colors are fall-like, but the fabric is lightweight
so for now, I layered a black blazer over the dress

Winter is coming, but I can't make it thought the season without my beloved floral prints!

Carrying an ivory and black reptile embossed baguette clutch

To accessorize, I chose a burnished silver wire web cuff bracelet
with a leaf pendant and bead necklace that I DIYed years ago
I haven't worn this necklace in a long time
so it's nice to get in out of the jewelry box!

Dark red suede ankle strap slingbacks to finish the outfit

Next, a solid color Fired Brick red shift dress

It's difficult to layer this dress because it is a very thick and substantial knit,
so I usually highlight accessories when I wear it since it's such a simply cut dress

Carrying a black and tan mini bucket bag

For jewelry, a mixed gold and silver tone statement necklace,
bold gold and black leather strap bracelet
and faceted ball stud earrings

Full on matchy-matchy with the shoes and belt
I had the shoes well before the belt, and had no idea they would work
so well together-a happy accident!

I've had this dress for several years
and it's a great blank canvas for accessories
Below is an outfit from fall of 2018
The giant bow, by the way, is pinned at the shoulder, it would never stay put, otherwise!

And here's an outfit in a similar dark red shade from fall of last year
I've been a big fan of this color, especially for the cooler seasons, for a long time!

I hope you are all safe and well-enjoy your week!

Samba Red

Hi everyone, I hope you are all safe and well!

Samba Red is one of Pantones's color picks for this fall and winter season,
so we will all be seeing this shade a lot in fashion and it will be readily available
I'm a long time lover of all shades of red, so this is good news for me!

For this post I have put together a few outfits using this bright and bold red color

First, a longer blazer in Samba red layered over a black camisole blouse
with a high waisted zip front pencil skirt in a black and ivory weave

The color red really adds punch to a basic black and white outfit!

Carrying an ivory reptile embossed fold over clutch
with a geometric deco inspired stripe pattern

For jewelry I chose a silver tone open design choker necklace
and a ball hinged bracelet.  I added red heart ❤️ shaped hand crafted earrings-
my favorite motif!

Black and tan cap toe sling back spectator pumps to finish the outfit

Another outfit using this bright red color in a mock neck blouse
 layered under a black blazer
Worn with a pop art style geometric print skirt
in red, peach, black and white

Bright color can really help lift my spirits!

Carrying a rectangular black studded handle bag

The pattern and color in this outfit seem to call for bold jewelry,
so I picked out a gold tone open cuff bracelet and long bar earrings to accessorize

Black suede wedge heel pumps with buckle detail to complete the outfit

One of many outfits styled with the color red from the past
A red lightweight top coat from last fall
I wore it over a leopard print sheath dress and bow neck blouse
The shoes are the same ones in the first outfit, above
This was from a post last November about Autumn Outerwear

Red from the flower garden 🌺

And from the vegetable 🍅 garden earlier this summer

Hope everyone is having a good week and thanks for stopping by!

Fluttering sleeves

Hello everyone and thanks for stopping by!

Wishing everyone and your families a Happy Father's Day
and for those in the northern hemisphere, a happy summer solstice!
Sleeve treatments have been a big trend focus for several years running now,
and one of this season's many interpretations is the flutter sleeve

I have seen a lot of variations of this feminine sleeve style
on the internet, though I have not seen much fashion at all in real life
as outings have been few and far between during the past months

Here are a few outfits with flutter sleeves that I put together

This forest green floral midi dress buttons down the front
and has double flutter style sleeves
I love the sleeves, but the dress is not very versatile
It's difficult to layer anything over it, because of the voluminous sleeves
I might try wearing it open as a long duster or topper over trousers or jeans for variety

Two trimmed layers of fluttering sleeves on a gathered sleeve cap
equals a lot of shoulder volume!

For jewelry, I chose a gold tone love knot bracelet and flower petal earrings

Accessorized with a tan clutch bag and matching color belt
with an oval gold tone buckle

Wearing super comfortable wide cross strap cork wedge heel sandals
These shoes are not vintage but the style is retro
and I think they complement the 70's feel of the dress

The next outfit features a violet color floral print flutter sleeve top
It's peplum style reminds me of 1940's fashion
There is a lot of referencing back to previous decades this season!
There is a big mix of details being re-interpreted now
especially from the 40's and the 70's decades

Wearing a white lace trimmed camisole under this blouse
with a black knee length flared hem skirt

Short, puffy, flutter sleeves-so feminine!

Carrying one of my favorite bags:
A box handle style with a photo of two playful Bassett Hounds

For jewelry I picked out a delicate vintage 1940's violet flower and leaf
glass bead necklace doubled up and worn as a bracelet
Vintage silver tone angel wing clip earrings, I think these are from the 60's or 70's
I'm mixing my decades all over the place in these outfits!

Black d'Orsey pumps to complete the look

Flutter sleeves to wear at home, and for the big event of the week-
a trip to the supermarket

The ruffly sleeves and royal blue embroidery makes this boho style blouse special

Worn with a woven leather belt, silver tone celestial star necklace
and royal blue glass ball stud earrings

Comfortable low block heel sandals for walking

So far, our late spring weather has been cooler and wetter than usual
The blooming flowers in the neighborhood have been welcome spots of color

Hope everyone has a good week and stay safe!
