Happy Memorial Day

I hope everyone in the US is enjoying the long Memorial Day weekend. This is
the weekend that is considered the kick-off to the summer season.  I love the atmosphere of it, and the anticipation of summer it brings!

A Red, white and blue outfit, to show my colors

What says summer more than espadrilles!

This is one of my favorite brooches.  It is plastic, with 3-D boats, and is 1940's vintage

A nautical inspired outfit.
I live in a port city, now, so the water is very influential.  But no matter where I have lived, I have always been a fan of the nautical look.

Have fun, everyone!

Old Navy shop

Old Navy has some cute things in, now.

You have to try everything on, though, and not leave anything to chance.  I tried on these two pairs of Pixie chinos in the same size.  One fit.  The other, not so much.

The store  has a lot of cute, easy summer dresses.  Many of the styles have spaghetti straps, and  I like that they make the straps adjustable, for an easier fit.

I love a peplum, and I tried on some sweet tank and sleeveless styles.

The Boho look is well represented, with lots of embroidered tops,

as well as this adorable eyelet crop top.

I made a few purchases here.  The floral chinos, which I wore in my last post, and the blue top with white embroidery, which will be featured soon.

So much cuteness!  I wanted to take their pooch mascot home with me, too.

I hope everyone who celebrates Memorial Day, has a happy and safe holiday weekend!

Flower Power

Welcome to flower land!

I love floral clothing, especially in the spring and summer, when the inspiration of flowers blooming is all around me.

Dress with big, bright pink and orange blooms

with fuchsia cage sandals and a white and straw bag

A blouse of inky blue cabbage roses in an allover pattern,
worn over a white dress

with navy and gold accessories

Home Refresh

House Painting

We are in the process of painting our house.  When we moved in last year, the home inspectors estimated our house would need to be painted in about five years.  Surprise!  It showed signs of bare
wood, after the first winter.  The house was a depressing dark brownish red, that didn't seem right for it at all, and we wanted a big change.  After tossing around a few ideas, we decided on yellow.  There are a lot of shades of yellow to chose from!

Some of the possibilities:

Narrowing it down, we choose Lemon Ice, a light clear shade.  The color seemed warm and welcoming, and fit the house and the location, nicely.

A coat of primer, and testing how three different shades would look on the house

In progress. Ugh. Scraped, and the first coat of primer going on.

Second coat of primer. Well, on part of the house, anyway.  Two toned!

It takes a lot of paint to go from very dark, to very light. A coat of primer, and three coats of color.

It's finished now, and we like it much better. The house looks so much more cheerful and inviting.

Thank you Carlos and your team, you did a great job!

More stuff leaving my closet

When I was putting away the fall and winter things I plan to save, (and I had to pull some of them right back out, since we are having such an unusually cool spring), I culled some shoes. I wore them all at least once, first, to make sure it was time to say good by.

These two spring dresses are going, as well.  The top one was a thrifted "mistake", and the bottom one, I'm just tired of wearing.

These spring/summer tops are just not right for me. I have tried them on, and they fail to inspire.

I've been really industrious, as you can see!
I also cleaned out my drawer of knit tops, and these are not coming back next year.

Lastly, this wild color combo with sequins, would be perfect for someone with the right personality to wear it with confidence.

Our community yard sale is this weekend, I hope all of these items can find a new home!

Melon and white print dress, three ways

Sometimes, a bold print turns out to be more versatile than I think

Melon and white print shift dress, by Alyx, with white cropped open cardigan.

Grey pebble grain leather handle bag from the 1960's,

and a sweet little fox pin, from the 1950's.
I'm a fan of vintage clothing and accessories, especially mid-century, and have collected things for years.  I like to mix my decades!

Same dress (though a little overexposed), with different accessories.

Nine West metallic quilted bag, cage cuff bracelet, and Kenneth Cole wedge sandals that have been a dream to wear for three spring seasons running.

With a grey silk jacket,

Nicole Miller bag with DIY tassel, and a hammered silver tone and rhinestone cuff.

I did not realize until I was putting together this post, that I gravitated toward wearing this dress with grey every time.  Pretty funny!
