Labor Day

Hello, and thanks for stopping by my blog!

It's hard to believe that summer is winding down already,
the Labor Day holiday is just a week away, and autumn will soon be here
I feel as if the summer has barely gotten started
It has been a very busy one that has just flown by!
This week I am sharing two fun and festive possible outfits
for the upcoming long Labor Day holiday weekend

First, a white tiered dress with sweet banded puffed sleeves
I worn this dress on the blog not long ago
in a post about summer whites mixed with bright colors

Today, I am switching it up and accessorizing it with red for the patriotic holiday
A white dress is like a blank canvas, it is so versatile!

This little round straw bag has been in heavy rotation this spring and summer
Today I dressed it up with a red and white striped scarf on the handle
in honor of the holiday

For accessories, I chose silver tone summery jewelry
Large silver tone and red enamel flower 🌺 earrings and a dolphin figure bracelet

Finishing the outfit with red and white striped espadrilles
These are summer favorites, but I've hardly had them out of the closet this season-
and this seems the perfect outfit for them!

Next, another outfit in the colors of the holiday
I chose a red and navy blue striped midi length tee shirt dress
that has also been worn on the blog before
I wore it back in the spring, dressed up a bit
Here it is remixed in a more casual way for the weekend

Accessorizing with a red, white and blue striped grosgrain belt
and a favorite little vintage 1960's white leather cross body bag

More accessories:
A white wired crinkle fabric headband that I have really enjoyed styling this summer
In my post from last week, I wore it around my neck as a sort of scarf
Also wearing a silver tone knot bracelet and white glass ball stud earrings

For shoes, I chose these white perforated slip on sneakers
These are cute and fun, but kind of stiff and clunky
and I have only worn them a few times
Buying shoes online is tricky-
no matter now closely I study the descriptions and reviews
I usually end up with some surprises!

Hope everyone enjoys their week and upcoming holiday!

Summer sweet spot

The end of August and the month of September are such sweet spots weather wise
in Maryland, the part of the country where I live
I think this is my favorite time of the year here
The intense heat of the earlier summer months is over,
and yet the chilly fall nip in the air is not yet evident
I would like to stay right here and savor these magic days with perfect temperatures
and hold onto them as long as possible!

This week I am styling two bright and cheerful outfits to celebrate this lovely time of year
Let's celebrate everything, right?

My first look has lots of warm summer color
A pinkish-coral cardigan with an orange grosgrain button placket
tucked into my festive circle and dot print skirt

I've had this skirt for a long time and love it still
It's a happy, colorful mood elevating print

A pop of sun-shiny orange in this vintage 60's vinyl handle bag
I love the 60's for all of the wild colors and creative use of textiles

I chose light and simple jewelry,
with a gold tone open cuff bracelet and white handmade glass bead stud earrings
I have been having fun style this white crinkle fabric wired neck scarf/headband
 all spring and summer long

White perforated slip on sneakers 👟 to finish the look

Another outfit in a somewhat similar color combination for this time of year
This puffed sleeve, ruffle neck top is in an abstract floral and leaf print
in pink, orange, tan and brown
Worn with straight leg, high waisted white denim jeans

Fantastic flowers and foliage
In my wardrobe the flowers never stop blooming-no matter what the season!

Carrying my orange tweed fabric chain strap bag

Accessorizing with summer beach theme jewelry
A two tone butterfly necklace, silver tone dolphin bracelet
and coral color starfish earrings

These cork sole wedges with tan leather criss cross vamp
are summer favorites
They are so light and comfortable to wear
It's items like these that I am sorry to see show wear
because they are so indispensable

Orange 🍊 is a bit of a theme for this post

What I was wearing at the end of summer 2019-
a bold orange floral print skirt

Some giant red-orange poppies-
I love these delicate  late summer bloomers!

Hope everyone has a good week
What are your thoughts about the changing seasons?
I have friends in both camps-
Those who can't wait for sweater season,
and those who say let's linger here-it's all good!

Sixties Vintage Summer

Hello, and thanks for stopping by my blog for a little time traveling today

I mix vintage accessories into my outfits pretty frequently,
but my vintage clothing pieces don't get worn often enough, especially post lockdown

So today, I am styling a few of the fun 1960's era things in my wardrobe
that have come out of the closet for the first time, in a long time!

First, an outfit built around a fabulous 1960's Pucci-esque print half slip
That's right, I'm wearing a vintage slip as a skirt
I think it's too pretty to hide!
Th slip is made from a thick opaque Tricot fabric,
and is much less flimsy than some of the current fashion skirts being sold today
Wearing it with a sky blue short sleeve tee,
and wide white braided belt to hide the elastic waistband
The outfit as a whole doesn't really scream 1960's the way I styled it today,
but there are several vintage elements

The little white leather pouch is also vintage, from the 60's,
while my blue and white boldly striped silk neck scarf is current

A mix of old and new in the jewelry in this outfit, too
I chose a 1950's era white plastic expansion bracelet
that I wear a lot during the summer months,
with a current pair of enamel sailboat earrings and silver tone flower pendant necklace
A mish-mash of decade mixing for sure!

White band strap sandals with woven straw wrapped heels to finish the look

My next outfit is an all out color-fest
with another wild and wacky psychedelic 60's print-
I love them!
This print is on a conservative square neck A-line shift dress-
what a contrast between cut and colors

I love the pattern and bright, unreal colors,
and the cute bow and inverted pleat on the skirt

Paired this dress with my bright pink bow bag

and followed the pink theme with my accessories
The dress seems to call out for colorful accessories, as well
Candy pink belt and a neck scarf with polka dots in shades of pink

For jewelry, I chose a bold gold tone asymmetrical bracelet and
pink irregular shaped stone earrings

Pink slides to finish this lively look

Going just a few years back in time, to 2017,
with a 60's inspired look in a Victoria Beckman shift dress
It is from her Spring 2017 collaboration with Target

Daisies: The flower of the 60's-
Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair

I am currently watching a concert filmed at Wembley Stadium in 1974
of the group Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young
A very young Joni Mitchell is as a guest performer
Coincidentally, today is David Crosby's birthday and he is 81 years old
As a folk music fan, I so enjoy blast from the past concerts-
they are remarkable and such a treat
I am glad they are archived and available for all to enjoy!

Hope everyone has a good week!

Summer Paisley Prints

Hello, and thanks for stopping by my blog!

Paisley has been a trend in the background for the past few seasons,
and I have seen quite a bit of creative variety in this print, lately
I like that paisley is a classic that can be adapted to all seasons
It is seen in a lot of sizes and colors
and on many fabrics and types of clothing and accessories
This week I am featuring two adaptations of paisley prints for summer,
in light and breezy warm weather fabrics

My first outfit is a two piece blouse and skirt set
The pieces can be worn separately or together, to give the look of a dress
This paisley print is muted and medium size,
with the shapes in light brown and peachy pinks on an ivory background
I love all the feminine details on this set-
ruffles on the blouse and smocking on the skirt!

Accessorizing with two favorite staples from my closet-
a bronze metallic bag with convertible strap,
and metallic reptile embossed belt with pink bow

Gold tone jewelry seemed right with the predominantly brown tones in the print
I chose large open circle earrings, a two toned yellow and rose gold wrap bracelet
and a disc pendent necklace

Shimmery metallic gold cross strap sandals with woven wedge heels
to finish the look

Another outfit in paisley
This time, a sleeveless silk dress with a large paisley print mixed with a smaller border print
The lightweight fabric and cool tones of blue and blue-green
on an ivory background are perfect for hot summer days
This dress has a bit of a toga vibe, so I played it up with some of the accessories

Carrying my little white 60's vintage pouch bag
decorated with a blue and white stylized print scarf as a handle

Wearing minimal summery silver tone jewelry:
My dolphin bracelet and swirling ribbon design earrings

I chose a matching royal blue crinkle fabric head band and belt for colorful accessories

Low wedge Grecian style strap sandals in muted gold metallic
to finish the outfit

August blooms that can take the heat: Moss Roses

Some light and fresh summer picnic food in vintage 60's ceramic dishes

Hope everyone is having a great summer!
