The versatile shirtdress

A shirtdress is a classic style, easy for women of all body types and ages to wear
This style of dress has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity for the past few seasons,
and I am happy to see lots of variations on the theme available

This first outfit is a modern twist on the shirtdress style, in a sweet bird print,
with a tie neckline in place of the usual shirt collar

I wore it with an embossed brown belt with faux tortoise shell buckle,
a Coach mini bag, and double pearl earrings

Wine asymmetrical strap suede heels to match the dress

This next shirtdress is a more literal interpretation
It is in the style of a man's dress shirt, right down to the curved shirt tail hem,
only longer, in a pale pink washed chambray

Worn with a grey convertible handle saddle bag,

taupe suede open toe lace up booties

and a distressed and studded wide belt
Silver tone hoop earrings (and a wide silver tone cuff bracelet that didn't make it
into the photo) complete the look

This last shirtdress, is in white with black vertical stripes and a pleated skirt
The collar (and cuffs, which you can't see, since I've rolled them up)
are in a contrasting black stripe

I wore it with my black and white striped handle bag
Double stripes-why not!
Red 50's vintage plastic cuff bracelet and red enamel heart necklace

I swaped out the sash belt that came with the dress for a black leather one,
and added a red scarf to my hair
I finished the outfit with multi colored sandals with gold block heels
Lots of accessories for me!

Do you have a shirtdress in your closet?

Lending a helping hand

There are a staggering number of causes to lend a helping hand to, especially now,
with multiple recent disasters to support, in the US and abroad

One of the things my husband and I are doing is filling "flood buckets" to help
with the ongoing clean up needed, that Hurricane Harvey left in it's wake in Houston, Texas

Local churches in our area are collecting these flood buckets,
which donaters fill with cleaning supplies.  The churches truck them to the relief effort location

It's very easy to assemble a flood bucket, we bought the bucket and everything we needed
to fill it in one shopping trip, purchasing most of the supplies at the Dollar Tree Store

So, I made my second trip to the Dollar Tree Store sooner than expected!

Above is the bucket and the items
recommended to fill it that the clean up effort needs most

They provide a wish list, the charity is called UMCOR

As mentioned, we bought most of the items at the Dollar Tree Store
The insect repellent is from Target, and the bucket with the lid from Home Depot

All the supplies fit in the bucket,
(we took a few things out of the bulky packaging)
The closed lidded buckets make them easy to transport and distribute

Count your blessings and lend a hand, wherever you chose, if you can!

The blues are back

Shades of blue are back again season
Two blues, Navy Peony and Marina, as well as a blue green color called Shaded Spruce
are in the Pantone color palette for fall and winter
This is fine by me, because I love the blues!
Plus, when did blue ever go out of style?

All three of these outfits revolve around a blue piece
The first outfit is a navy sleeveless tie waist dress with an asymmetrical hem
I wore it over a 3/4 sleeve white shirt,

and  carried my bright pink bag
with simple geometric gold tone jewelry

I accessorized with a pink and white striped neck scarf,
which I thought was fine at the time, but looking at the photo
I think I look a little like an airline hostess
Better luck next time, it was not meant to be a costume!

This casual outfit starts with a dusty blue tucked front tunic
that I wanted to wear one last time before it leaves my closet
I rarely wear it, so into a new closet it goes.  Worn with black floral embroidered jeans

I carried my vintage suede fringed bag,
and wore silver tone star earrings and my "love" letters bracelet

Finished with western detail booties
Is western/Boho a thing?

Lastly, full on royal blue!  This is a very versatile dress,
I think I have worn it layered different ways in all seasons
This time, with matching autumn inspired accessories

Rusty tan faux woven box clutch, suede grommeted sash belt,

and rusty brown block heel sandals to finish

I still haven't changed out to my fall wardrobe this season,
because the weather hasn't warranted it yet.  It's still 80 degrees here
The weather could stay like this all winter-I would love it!
So far, I just brought a few things up from storage, one at a time
I would be roasting if I had a closet full of sweaters, now.

Changes at Target

Ballet Slipper Pink burnout velvet top from A New Day

This post is a bit of a mish-mash, as I navigate my way through the new clothing lines
and new floor plan in place at the Target where I usually shop

As most of you know, Target has done away with many of it's old stand-by brands, storewide

Most noticeably in the women's clothing department, the Merona brand has been dropped,
and a brand called A New Day has been added.  A New Day is not really a replacement for Merona, and there seems to be a hole to fill in it's absence, for the adult working woman
A New Day seems to be geared toward a younger buyer, but it's a little early to tell
this is just the line's debut.

My Target favorite is Mossimo, which doesn't seem to have been effected.
Whew!  I'll keep my fingers crossed!

I found lots of lace, on this trip to the store, which is good, because my lace-love continues!

The first two blouses I like are from the WhoWhatWear line
They are the same style, one is in a floral print, and one in solid red

Another instant outfit elevator is this sheer ivory ruffled blouse, also from WWW

The last lace blouse I fell for is this rich eggplant colored shell with a scalloped hem
This one is from the old standby Xhilaration brand

From Mossimo, a cropped and brightly striped ribbed knit sweater-so 70's!

A few skirts caught my eye, two short ones, this first from the new line,
(thanks for adding pockets!)

and this ruffled hem floral, from WWW

I also liked this snake print midi, also from WWW

On to pants.  A pair of nautically inspired wide leg crops,

and a pair of slim crops in a fresh new color

I'm a bit confused on which way to turn in the pants department
It seems like anything goes!
I see cropped styles in slim, straight, kick flare and wide legs,
and full length skinnies and flares-
also, high waisted pleated trousers.  Huh?

Back to my favorite brand Mossimo
I love this longer plaid blazer with the sleeves already pushed up for me!

In dresses, a little more lace, this time in a simple shift dress with cute ruffled cap sleeves

At the opposite end, full on animal print!

I'll leave you with this cute
asymmetrically ruffled dress in a popping red-orange,
the look-at-me color of the season!

I'll need a while to sort this out
I'm hoping there's something here that will meld with my fall clothes from last year
that I hope to haul out of the basement in the next week or two!

Black and White

Black and white is a classic, neutral (non) color combination that I can always count on,
like an old and trusted friend.  It never goes out of style, and spans all seasons
A black and white outfit is also a great canvas for adding a pop of color!

Here are three black and white outfits I have worn during this season transition

The first outfit uses subtle pattern mixing with a black and white small check pattern
knit jacket and a black and white diagonally striped full midi skirt

I added a pop of pink in my bag and pink and white striped scarf
Simple gold tone accessories

Black with gold and bronze stripe ankle strap heels to finish
This outfit is a very ambitious combination for me!

The next outfit starts with an interesting black and white bird print blouse
with a bold, black graphic element
Paired with a closet staple, a basic black pencil skirt

This time I choose orange to add a bit of color
My favorite sixties orange pebble grain clutch with simple geometric gold tone jewelry

Shiny patent leather orange T-strap sandals to complete the look
I don't wear these often, but they are a fun color when I can work them in!

This last outfit uses print and colorful accessories to add interest
A 3/4 sleeve tie waist cardigan with a swirling black and white print
paired with a black athleisure inspired skirt with white side stripes

For color, a red vinyl clutch,
silver tone geometric earrings and a 1960's red plastic and metal necklace

I think this will be the last wear this season of these black topstitched platform sandals
See you next spring, old favorites!

September thrift

There was a motley mix of clothing at the Goodwill this week,
probably due to the store organizing for the change of seasons
Here are a few of the highlights

In the dresses, an easy fitting purple shift dress with black lace yolk and bell sleeves
It looks like a nice transition piece

Following the Ballet Slipper Pink trend, a pair of pink dresses
The one on the left is from the Victoria Beckham for Target collection this spring

Two color block dresses in fall colors,
one in prints and the other in solids

Another two-some.
Two wrap style midi dresses, one solid bright blue and one in a black and white geometric print

Lastly, in the dresses, a spaghetti strap slip style in lux satin with lots of layering possibilities

There were a few really nice blouses this trip
This is unusual, as blouse and tops are almost always the most picked over

Bright and bold blue and green stripes

A subdued winter floral print with a tie neck

Bright blue with a bling trimmed deep "V" neckline

Starting to see some nice fall sweaters this trip, too

like this cozy oversize heather grey one with interesting braided detail

I think I'm going to regret not buying these next two sweaters
I need to get my fall and winter clothes out soon,
so I'll know what I could use

More stripes

Today seemed to be pairs day!
These two cashmere sweaters in different shades of grey
must have come out of the same persons closet edit
Super soft cashmere, but this style sleeve just does not work for me

It's hard to see in the photo,
but this magenta zip up cardigan is covered in tiny studs

Striped and piped jacket, so preppy!

Sparkly warm up sweater/hoodie jacket
there seems to be a resurgence in popularity in these

And also from bebe, and I'll bet from the same closet as the jacket above
is a two piece set with all over sequins
Some retro glitz!

Hope all your thrifting adventures are happy ones!
