Denim Dress for the Beginning of Summer

Hello and thanks for stopping by my blog
☀️ Happy summer solstice to everyone! 😎

I hope your weather for the first days of summer
are going better than in my part of the country-
it's pouring buckets, currently!

I am starting summer with a little bit
of an unusual outfit today
Generally, I pack away my darker denim
in favor of lighter washes for summer,
but dark denim seems to be all the rage this summer,
(as well as double denim outfits)
So for today, I decided to wear this short sleeve, button front,
denim dress, as a one and done outfit
The dress is semi-fitted, with a stitched in waistband,
and brass buttons down the front
It has multiple pockets-
two copious hip pockets and two smaller flap chest pockets
I love a garment with usable pockets!

There was a time in my teenage years
that my closet was mostly full of blue jeans
Those days are gone,
but there is still room in my wardrobe for denim

Are you a fan of denim?

Did you go through a phase,
probably during your teens and maybe early twenties,
 of wearing nothing but jeans
practically every day, like I did?

I remember the American Music Awards in 2001,
when Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake
showed up together in double denim
It was quite controversial at the time
 Twenty-five years later,
I don't think anyone would even bat an eye!

 Denim is so versatile
With all the weights and washes and styles, there is truly something for everyone, if you like it

This dress is a blank slate of blue,
so I piled on the accessories
Since orange and blue are complementary colors,
on opposite ends of the color wheel,
I thought I would give the outfit a little pop of orange
to lighter the darker denim

My bag is vintage patent leather from the 60s
I have had it for years and purchased it at an antique store,
way back when
This type of item is much more difficult to find today,
 except through resellers
But I think it is worth the hunt,
because they are so much fun,
and add such personality to an outfit

More orange, in a gold tone and orange buckle bracelet,
and orange enamel 3-D flower shaped earrings

Since this is such a simple dress,
I piled on more accessories in the form of
  a denim hair band,
which I guess makes this a double denim outfit!
Also, a white and orange print skinny scarf,
 and an orange belt
The dress has a stitched waistband,
that I think gives it a sort of utilitarian look,
kind of like a coverall
Oddly, it has belt loops too,
and seems to cry out for a belt,
so I added one for another pop of orange color

Tan tassel loafer style pumps to finish the outfit

Yesterday, the summer solstice,
was the longest day of sunlight of the year,
and the start of astronomical summer
 in the northern hemisphere

Hope everyone has a glorious summer
enjoying all the things you love most!

Guardian hawks to the bay, yesterday
on a beautiful beginning of summer day

It's a pretty combo! I almost forgot about my denim dress which is light enough to wear on cooler summer days. Our weather has actually been pretty pleasant so I have enjoyed the month of June. I am sure it is going to be getting pretty hot soon.

I love this outfit! A denim dress is such a timeless summer staple, and you've styled it beautifully. The accessories add just the right amount of personality while keeping the look effortless and easy to wear. It's a great reminder that one simple piece can create such a polished outfit. Thanks for the inspiration!

I am a fan of denim, although you have to search hard for the right pieces. Id love to have a denim dress. Orange is the perfect color to go with yours. I'm surprised you had rain. We've had record temperatures for the last week! Hope yours is a good one.

I never wore jeans in my teens and twenties. Perhaps not even later on. I am now, since a few years starting to wear jeans. But I do love denim skirts and dresses. That is just a fabulous dress. And that bag is so cute, and what gorgeous necklaces. Do you live near that lake?

I love navy and orange together, so this dark denim dress with orange accents is right up my alley!

I love denim dresses, they're timeless! The orange bag is gorgeous and makes for a fabulous colour combination with the dark blue. Thanks for linking!
